Installing the Monsoon II

Like many other aftermarket cooler installations, you'll need to remove your motherboard to mount the Monsoon II. Four screws hold it in place using a supplied backing plate to evenly distribute the force over a small area on the back of the PCB. We had to trim some of the soft padding off the backing plate with scissors to clear a few soldering points on the back of our P5WDG2-WS motherboard, but it mounted up without any serious issues otherwise.

You can rotate the Monsoon's orientation 90 degrees to point up, down, left, or right to direct airflow toward your case's exhaust ports. On our Silverstone TJ07 case, the rear fans blow inward toward the CPU while the top fans are tasked with exhausting hot air outside the chassis. The Monsoon II wouldn't clear the top fans oriented in a bottom-to-top airflow setting, so we left it in the conventional position blowing towards the back of the case. We also reversed the direction of the rear fans so they wouldn't counteract the airflow of the cooler. Most cases have their rear fans pointing outward so you shouldn't run into this issue unless you're using a chassis with non-standard layout. Continued...
